Sun Collective

Sun Collective celebrated the release of their critically acclaimed debut album in 2017. Most recently they performed and collaborated at the P-E-O-P-L-E Festival in the Funkhaus Berlin, made their debut Australian appearance at the Woodford Folk Festival, followed by a run of sold out performances in Brisbane, Gold Coast and Melbourne and have just finished a small tour of intimate shows throughout Ireland alongside I Have a Tribe.

Lauren Murphy: The Irish Times ✭✭✭✭
“The standout of these seven tracks is the swoonsome, soaring Tides, which is one of the most uplifting songs we’ve heard all year. This gem of an album may fly under your radar, but it really shouldn’t.”

Danny McElhinney: The Irish Mail on Sunday ✭✭✭✭
“It seems likely this will be embraced wholeheartedly by fans of music of exquisite quality.”

Christine Costello: The Thin Air ✭✭✭✭
” Re-contextualising folk into the contemporary and championing its significance to Irish musical culture, Sun Collective’s debut is a powerful statement. ”

Tom Dunne: Newstalk
“Ambitious and excellent.. Absolutely gorgeous.”

Carl Corcoran: Lyric FM

Dan Hegarty: 2FM
“Beautiful and ambitious”

Stephen White: The Last Mixed Tape
“Tides…a song as deep as it is wide sonically. Engrossing.”

Nialler9: The Irish Times
“Song of the week”

Their debut album, written by Caimin Gilmore and Shane Sugrue, was carefully developed and recorded over the course of four years at studios in London (SARM West, formerly Island Records & Miloco Studios), Dublin (Steve Shannon, The Hive) and Australia (Burrow Studios). Sun Collective’s songs are harmonically rich and densely orchestrated for string trio, two pianos, and three high male voices punctuated by double bass and percussion. Their Indie folk music draws on their orchestral and jazz backgrounds with influences from contemporary classical music.

LUX ALMA is the brand new solo act from Irish Theatre award winning sound designer and musician Alma Kelliher. Fresh from a world tour with thisispopbaby’s smash hit theatrical sensation RIOT, Kelliher launched LUX ALMA with her first single The Tomb in November 2018, when it was immediately crowned Song of the Week by RTÉ Culture.

Her debut live show at Dublin’s Studio 10 sold out in a day, and she just completed a stellar, expansive live show in BelloBar, taking her live act to the next level, with some of Dublin’s finest musicians joining her.

LUX ALMA’s music is sometimes contemplative, sometimes pulsing, often concentrating on themes of female strength and Irish mythology. Unafraid of the darker elements of our legends, Alma channels the fierce power of everything from crone to goddess and turns her gaze to modern Ireland and the growing power of our women. This is all wrapped in a dreamy electro aesthetic with Alma’s soaring vocal at its core.

Her debut has been two years in the making, stemming from a Next Generation Arts Council Award for music. It was recorded with producer Ber Quinn at Sonic Studios.

No stranger to the stage, Alma has previously performed as a vocalist with Villagers, Cloud Castle Lake and Roisin O, and supported acts including Wallis Bird and The Lost Brothers. Alma has also been one part of the hugely popular trio The Evertides, a mainstay of the Irish folk scene for a number of years, playing all the major folk festivals and getting broad radio play throughout Ireland.

Her second single The Fly is out now and was launched exclusively on The Alternative, 2FM by Dan Hegarty. A chilled-out and ethereal track with an electro-pop edge, it’s infused with rich vocal harmony.

You can catch Alma in Vicar Street from May 1st-4th as thisispopbaby’s RIOT returns to its stomping ground for one week only.
